An eclectic session ranging from EBM-tinged sonics to leftfield house

Contact pulls together a varied night of adventurous dance music, showcasing two distinctive moods across two rooms.

The Studio X Floor hosts Kangding Ray. David Letellier’s principal project has straddled the divide between bruising techno and restless experimentation for more than 10 years. Acclaimed albums and EPs on Raster Noton and Stroboscopic Artefacts have taken the blueprint of club music into strange and exciting new spaces, where an outernational palette of sounds collide with industrial force and dread-laced sound design. Letellier returned in 2019 with the Predawn Qualia EP on his new label, ara, and his live set promises to yield more new material.

By way of contrast, the Contact floor welcomes long-serving maverick house producer Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts. A staple of the Montreal scene that orbited Mutek festival, his career naturally took him to Berlin where he became a regular fixture in the more interesting corners of the minimal house scene. Albums on Circus Company and Musique Risquée and a plethora of singles continue to fuel more intriguing corners of the dancefloor. AOKI takamasa lends support on the Contact floor. The Japanese producer has delivered striking, experimental variations on the minimal techno blueprint via Raster Noton, op.disc and Progressive Form. His recent Internally Combusted 12” landed as the first release on VHS Rec in Romania, marking the welcome return of a truly intriguing artist.
