Boundary-testing house and techno with a masterful touch

Fumiya Tanaka returns to his spiritual home CHAOS once more. This space he has carved for himself allows the celebrated DJ and producer the freedom to stretch out and play selections he might not during a more conventional club booking. Of course his keen attention to detail and refined taste still bind everything together, but you can expect the night to take more impulsive twists and turns as Tanaka enjoys his role as the night’s resident. Colourful vocal tracks and crooked leftfield house cuts merge seamlessly with his more familiar strain of minimalism to create a night bursting with character.

Joining Tanaka for this edition of CHAOS is a veritable legend of dance music culture. Gerald Simpson’s roots as a dancer in the earliest days of UK house music culture soon led him towards production, helping break new ground in the acid house scene as part of 808 State before going alone as A Guy Called Gerald. He went on to help pioneer the emergent jungle movement, from rougher ragga strains to more introspective, techno-inspired sounds. And so his career has continued on its singular path ever since – a constant presence as a live act and on record, nomadic and flexible in his approach, but always rooted in the essence of great club music.
