Contact, which has led the night scene as one of Tokyo’s leading clubs since its opening in 2016, will soon close. The demolition of the building it occupies due to redevelopment is the reason for its closure, but for me, it’s a shame to see the flow that has been passed down from Nishi-Azabu to Shibuya come to a halt. However, Tokyo is a power spot where new venues and scenes have emerged through the repetition of the process. Let us wait in anticipation for the next developments. Before that, DJs from the UK and the US, as well as from Tokyo and Kyoto, will be here, transcending generations, to select one track at a time, in gratitude to Contact. “Last Step in Jazz” was taken from the title of one of the closing events of Space Lab YELLOW, which regrettably closed in 2008.
