For our first event of 2016, MNML SSGS moves to Contact. It is a great space and we look forward to continuing to develop our approach there, which means a strong focus on quality techno that never loses sight of the dancefloor. This time we are very happy to welcome 3 international artists: Ulf Eriksson from Sweden, along with Erika and Magic Touch from the United States. This year Ulf is celebrating the 10 year anniversary of his Kontra-Musik label, which has developed a strong reputation for exploring the deeper strains of techno. Ulf’s abilities as a selector extend from curating the label to behind the decks, with a warm, psychedelic approach well suited to our tastes. Last year, he played in Japan with fellow Swede, Sebastian Mullaert, in a unique DJ-live hybrid setup. This will be his solo debut here. Joining him in the studio will be Erika. We first encountered Erika at Labyrinth in 2014, and immediately connected to her music and personality. She is a core member of the Interdimensional Transmissions crew, which continues to keep the rave spirit alive in Detroit. As a DJ, Erika finds the right balance between power and fun, avoiding the gray techno that bores the shit out of us. This will also be her DJ debut in Tokyo. Opening the mainfloor will be Chris SSG, building a successful start to 2016, which has included performances at Berghain’s Elektroakustischer Salon and Smoke Machine’s Organik festival.
In the Contact room, we are very happy to have the FISH crew returning to take care of things. We love their approach, a refreshing blend of enthusiasm and distinctive selections. In addition the usual FISH crew –Michihiko Ishidomaru, CHIRO and YU – former collaborators Magic Touch and Sapphire Slows will be playing. Magic Touch has released records on 100% Silk, True Romance, and under his own name on 1080p, and we are very fortunate he’ll be bringing his psychedelic take on house to our party. And rounding out the FISH room will be Sapphire Slows, ahead of her debut performance at Sonar in June.
We are really excited about our first party at Contact. It has the makings of a great venue, and we are very happy with the lineup we’ve put together. No boring techno here, just good people and quality music. Come join us, this will be proper.
