Heart-warming upfront grooves played by hand

Harvey Sutherland has been quietly building up his reputation as a modern master of warm, classically rooted electronic disco. Emerging out of the Melbourne underground and landing a spot on the respected Echovolt label, it was once he made the leap to Motor City Drum Ensemble’s label that he truly stepped into the spotlight. Now largely appearing on his own Clarity label, Sutherland continues to charm with his distinctive take on disco as defined by his skillful use of vintage synths. Far from a studio phenomenon, Sutherland has forged his reputation on his live performances, where his immense talent shines through. Having previously graced Contact in the past, his appearance at Modern Disco feels like a natural inevitability.

Modern Disco is run by Yosa & Taar, who have been immersing themselves in all kinds of groove-oriented music for years with releases, collaborations, remixes and much more besides. As well as the promoters being on warm-up duty, anticipation will be high for okadada’s guest appearance on the Studio X Floor as rumours abound about his forthcoming album.
