The Detroit house visionary returns to Contact

With the reverberations from Theo Parrish’s last appearance at Contact still echoing in Tokyo, we’re thrilled to welcome back the unparalleled Detroit artist. When he was last here in November 2018, he was playing alongside long time sparring partner and creative kindred spirit Marcellus Pittman, but this time Parrish is going to be representing on his own.

With his monolithic body of recorded work, Parrish has continued the tradition of black American music from the jazz foundations right through every evolution that has come since. Whether playing dusty beats free and loose on an MPC sampler or arranging full band ensembles with his Rotating Assembly project, Parrish’s touch is both steeped in culture and tradition, but also restlessly breaking new ground. It’s an artistic imprint innately reflected in his DJing, where stylistic divisions of time and geography get eroded as he instinctively rolls through funk, jazz, disco, house, techno and more besides, powered by passion and without a care for pre-conceived ideas of how a DJ should play.
